History of Sariska National Park

Sariska National Park was declared a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1955. In the year 1978, this sanctuary has become part of Project Tiger to declare as a tiger reserve. In the year 1990, Sariska was given the status of a national park in India.

This region and its nearby jungle are having mythological history also. As per Mahabharata, the dense forest of Sariska was the place where Pandavas spend some time during their exile. There is a famous Pandupol Hanuman Temple in the vicinity of the national park and it is believed that the temple is located at the exact location where Bhima met Lord Hanuman.

Flora & Fauna in Sariska Tiger Reserve

As per the latest report, there are 24 tigers in Sariska Tiger Reserve. The first tiger ST 1 was airlifted from Ranthambore to Sariska in the year 2004. Apart from tigers, you can sight a wide range of wildlife animals such as the Indian leopard, jungle cat, striped hyena, golden jackal, sambar deer, cheetal, nilgai, grey langur, Indian hare, various reptiles and a variety of migratory birds.

Gates and Zones of Sariska Tiger Reserve

There are two gates in Sariska National Park. The first gate is Sariska Gate through which you can enter zone 1, zone 2 and zone 3. The other gate is Tehla Gate through which you can enter zone 4.

The majority of the tourists prefer to enter the national park through Sariska Gate as the majority of the sightings have been reported in zone 1, zone 2 and zone 3. Tehla Gate is less preferred as sightings in zone 4 are preferred less. Both gates are located at a distance of 80 km.

Types of Safari at Sariska Tiger Reserve

There are two types of Safari in Sariska which are Jeep Safari and Canter Safari. Both types of safari operate in two shifts which are morning & evening.

Jeep Safari: Jeep Safari in Sariska accommodate 6 people in a gipsy excluding the driver cum guide. This is quite expensive as compared to a canter safari however, you will be able to explore the wildlife in Sariska closely through Jeep Safari in Sariska Tiger Reserve.

Canter Safari: Canter Safari can be enjoyed in an open minibus that can accommodate 20 visitors excluding a guide and visitors. If you are a large group, it is recommended to go for a canter safari as you all can explore the wildlife together in the same vehicle.

Timings of Sariska Tiger Safari

The safari timings at Sariska Tiger Reserve can slightly fluctuate as per the season. The decision over safari timings is totally upon the forest officials and they organize two safaris in a day which are morning safari and evening safari. The following are the timings of the jungle safari at Sariska based on the season:

Summer Timings

Morning Safari: 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM

Evening Safari: 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM

Winter Timings

Morning Safari: 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM

Evening Safari: 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Best Time to Visit Sariska Tiger Reserve

The best time to visit Sariska Tiger Reserve is anytime between October to March. In these months, the weather and climatic conditions will be favourable and you will not have to bear the scorching temperatures of Rajasthan.
